CYCLO X Longmont - December 5th, 2020 - CANCELLED
Dear Colorado Cyclocross Community,
For the past few months we left a troubled world behind, coming together to share in the thrill of competition. We hoped for a little more magic and to share one last start line on December 5th. Sadly, our magic has run out as Parker 2.0 will conclude the season. Our team felt energized by your enthusiasm, exploring new venues, but also making sure to balance that any new venue lived up to the high standard you’ve come to expect, while also balancing the “safety” of a fast-changing permitting landscape.
We would like to take a moment to reflect on a few sentiments for a season we’ll never forget. Back on September 7th, which seems like a lifetime ago, we received the late-breaking greenlight from the City of Boulder to move forward. Thankfully, that single approval opened the door with surrounding counties. The clock was ticking. We can now disclose our season came within just 48hrs of formally cancelling.
Traditionally, race directors define success by the number of events and participation totals, while athletes use ranking points and finish placement. Those metrics, while commendable targets to achieve, were not the deep rooted success we experienced. It seemed time slowed down on race day which gave me the opportunity to have deeper conversations with many of you. Conversations beyond the superficial “how was your race” or “what did you think of the course”. What I experienced was a group of athletes, from all over the country, who shared a start line for the pure love of competition. Once we’re back to chasing upgrades, rankings, and higher participation, my hope is that we never forget the joy that comes from pure competition.
Over the years the term “community” was a trendy word thrown around, it sounded good; but we never knew the depths of that bond. Meanwhile, many races around the world sadly won’t survive the current climate. Here in Colorado, it turns out the depths of that trendy term are rooted pretty deep. You all came together to compete but most of all to connect with each other. I can proudly say, because of you, we will all share a start line again in the future. To the racers, volunteers, officials, partners, coaches, junior parents, sponsors, and photographers – thank you!
With love, hope, and support,
Lance, and the entire Without Limits A-Team
The SHIMANO GRX Series all comes done to one final championship race. This year the series action wraps up in Longmont at Sandstone Ranch. This venue might seem flat on paper, but looks can be deceiving. Get ready for sand, smooth grass, even more off-camber grass, and twisting turning fun on the sloping hillsides of this soccer complex.
